Titans report card: How we graded Tennessee in loss to Browns

It came down to the final seconds, and once again the Tennessee Titans got the short end of the stick, falling to a 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns in the final seconds. After a strong first quarter, the Titans couldn't hold the lead, and missed opportunities and a porous defense cost them. Tennessee gave up too many big plays and failed to slow the Browns offense, which consistently controlled the tempo. Before we get started on Week 8, here’s a quick report card on how the Titans fared against the Browns in Week 7.Offense: CThe Titans' offense was uneven and missed opportunities, but it had its best rushing output of the season. Tony Pollard was the attack on Sunday, and he gave Tennessee a chance. Unfortunately, inaccurate passes, drops, and turnovers kept the unit from doing enough to win.Defense: CAs dominant as this unit played against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6, you would never have known watching this one. The Browns exploited a lack of pass rush and a porous run defense to control the clock, then gave up big plays at critical moments.Special teams: BThe special teams units were solid, but may have a significant question to answer moving forward. Punter Tommy Townsend injured his left knee at the end of the first half and could not punt in the second half, leaving Joey Slye to handle double duty. If it is serious, this would be a huge loss moving forward.Coaching: DThe Titans did enough to win, but some of the coaching decisions may have cost them dearly. Although the offense was conservative, Tony Pollard bailed out Brian Daboll early. Unfortunately, he couldn't do it all, and the predictability came back to haunt them in a horrendous goal-line sequence, where they once again failed to score. On top of that, the fact that Robert Saleh didn’t challenge the failed quarterback sneak. The Titans need to take advantage of every opportunity, and the failed challenge and the decision to forego points led directly to the Titans being down at halftime and eventually losing by three points. This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: Titans report card: How we graded Tennessee in loss to Browns
