DeBoer then double down on his decision in the media scrum after the game, which ultimately led to his firing despite taking the Stars to the Conference Final in each of his three seasons at the helm. The game started with a throwback vintage Benn to Seguin connection that opened the scoring for Dallas in the first period. Shortly after, star young defenseman Matthew Schaefer made his impact felt with a great individual effort during 4-on-4 play, finished off with a roof shot to tie the game at 1-1. The lead didn't last long, as Robertson forced a turnover behind the net, spun around and beat Ilya Sorokin on the same 4-on-4.The teams went back and forth, with Kyle Palmieri and Brayden Schenn scoring in the second period.
