However, he had to deal with a more significant loss he would trade an MVP trophy to get back.Star Thunder forward Jalen Williams suffered a severe ankle injury after a missed dunk with a minute left in the fourth quarter, and Shai was the first to see the impact.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could not stop crying after Jalen Williams’ injuryWith Gilgeous-Alexander closest to the play where Williams went up for a dunk over two Clippers defenders and appeared to snap his leg, the two-time MVP understandably broke down in tears after seeing such a serious injury happen to a teammate. The Clippers defenders in question on the play were Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr., with Dunn getting charged with a flagrant 1 foul after review. Williams gave the fans a thumbs-up while being stretchered off the court, but Gilgeous-Alexander remained visibly emotional after the play. There is no official diagnosis on Williams yet, with the Thunder presumably taking their time before confirming what many believe could be a season-ending injury. The graphic nature of the injury video already has fans comparing it to serious setbacks in the past to forwards like Gordon Hayward and Paul George, which would be a season-long problem for the Thunder to deal with.Williams had an injury-prone 2025-26 season after emerging as an All-NBA forward in OKC’s championship-winning 24-25 season, averaging 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 33 games last season, and averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists through three games in the 2026-27 season.Williams’ absence was ultimately one of the main reasons the Thunder fell to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 Western Conference Finals, and it seems they might have to get used to his absence this season as well.Read more:Chad Johnson explains one thing about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s game that worries himNikola Jokic shares what Jamal Murray told everyone in the huddle when Nuggets were 16 points down‘Like Shaq’: Erik Spoelstra says Giannis is facing the same problem Shaquille O’Neal once did
