MotoGP Came to Its Senses and Created a Motogp Academy To Help Tackle Spanish Grid Dominance

This should help grassroots racing in the countries that are underrepresented on the grid.The NBA is dominated by US players, as is the NFL. Being from Ireland, I'd love to see more Irish players in both, but that's unrealistic, as we don't have the culture to produce top talent in those sports. "What has this got to do with MotoGP?" I hear you scream; MotoGP recently incentivized Moto3 and Moto2 teams to hire riders from any country other than Spain and Italy, regardless of whether they were more competitive, which I'm vehemently against.Earlier this year, I wrote about MotoGP's financial incentive, which could result in the overall quality of the grid lowering to make the nationalities represented more diverse. I proposed the organization take those financial incentives and spend them on promoting grassroots racing in the countries it would like to see represented on the grid. It looks like that's happening in the form of the newly formed MotoGP Academy.According to MotoGP, this new program falls under the Road to MotoGP, which is a developmental structure, and is intended to promote the sport around the world and further increase accessibility to motorcycle racing. MotoGP then invest directly in every branch’s success — providing tailored toolkits, activation support and branding, alongside exclusive discounts on MotoGP products."Once granted their place on the Road to MotoGP, each MotoGP Academy will bear the name of their nation, region or continent, following the highly successful example of the FIM MotoMini World Series. Larger nations and markets can have multiple MotoGP Academies, while others will have a national Academy that serves as the hub within that country. Key markets for the sport and those with even greater scope for growth will be a point of focus for the new MotoGP Academy program.In theory, this could be amazing for grassroots racing in Asia, Latin America, and North America if done correctly. But MotoGP has been vague on what it's actually investing in the program. We don't know, specifically, what the organization is committed to spending in each region or what exactly it would spend the money on.
