theOBRCLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!THE DAILY BLOVIATIONThere are plenty of people who have reversed course over the last 24 hours about the Cleveland Browns. It’s a wonder what five fourth-quarter comebacks in seven weeks can do to opinions.Last week, the key word was "sustainable." To use it in a sentence I read and heard often last week: “The Browns winning is not sustainable.” Yahoo's Frank Schwab ranked them 19th and said this "is not sustainable." ESPN's Ben Solak said they were a quarterback away. I don’t listen to sportstalk radio, but I’m sure they adopted it. Power rankings had the first-place Browns anywhere from 11th to 23rd, and five of nine put them last in their own division. Now, after a narrow win over an awful Tennessee Titans team, where the Browns once again could not stop a running back from rolling all over them, sustainability is seemingly forgotten.Scott Petrak opened his Monday analysis with a confession: "Before the season I predicted six wins. Total. It's time to recalibrate." The Athletic's Zac Jackson titled his piece "The Browns keep finding ways to win, and it's starting to feel real," and he said the climb now seems "worth proper attention." Mary Kay Cabot says Deshaun Watson belongs in the Comeback Player of the Year conversation. And then there's the advice. Pluto's column is headlined "Browns fans, don't be afraid to savor this season," and his answer to the sustainability crowd was, in capital letters, "WHO CARES!!!" The Beacon Journal's Chris Easterling cut a video telling fans to just ride the wave.Alright, then.I'll admit this column spent last week in the skeptics' corner. We did power rankings, the quarterback question, the trap game and the draft, and on Saturday I wrote that I was pretty sure the Browns would be shopping for a quarterback next year. I still think that.I’m budging from my curmudgeonly stance on the Browns a bit, not because of the admittedly impressive fourth-quarter comeback, but because of what happened before that. For the first time this year, the offense looked like an offense before the fourth quarter. The Browns piled up 491 yards, by far a season high. Watson threw for 308, his first 300-yard game in five seasons here, and got sacked once. Quinshon Judkins ran for 96 yards and two scores, Dylan Sampson added 45 more, and the rookie KC Concepcion caught eight balls for 129 yards, all in the first half. That's not luck. That's a young team getting better, and the offensive line coming together a bit, all of which was predicted here. Right on schedule. So, ride the wave? I'm a Browns fan who was 17 when Red Right 88 happened. I know how waves end. But I've also learned that when one finally shows up, you don't stand on the beach arguing about whether it's statistically likely. You paddle. You let a smile break across your face. 5-2 is a good thing.Monken put it best after the game: "That was a fun one. It never looks the same, but it feels the same." Watson added, "We haven't even reached our peak."I’m enjoying the moment, but I’m sorry that I haven’t fully bought in and am not convinced a playoff run is in the offing. It’s my personality at fault. I’m a worrier. I don’t want this fan base crushed again, like we were with Joe Flacco’s mojo sputtered. It’s hard not to still be a bit worried about the first quarter defense. And what Tony Pollard did. And what Braelon Allen did a few weeks back. I’m not in with both feet yet, but I’m not going to spoil the good time for anyone who is. After the last 27 years of rare respite from losing football, I’m not going to tell people not to walk a little further out onto the ice. But be careful out there. This and that from Nashville...WE'LL TAKE IT: PFT says Fannin's big catch should have been wiped out by a false start. Asked about it, Robert Saleh said, "Live, I think they did, yeah." I do not care. After all the years of Browns games that went the other way, I'd say the universe owed us one. Possibly several.AN UNWELCOME RECORD: The AP notes the Titans have now gone 65 straight games without back-to-back wins, tying the record set by the 2014-18 Browns. Congratulations to Tennessee on catching us. Please keep it.THE INFIRMARY: Tytus Howard was evaluated for a concussion in the third quarter, and Dawand Jones filled in. Myles Harden hurt a hamstring but came back. Mason Graham limped off in the fourth of his first game back but returned. Watch Fred’s post-Zoom check in for updates later today.IT'S PITTSBURGH WEEK: The Steelers beat the Saints in Paris and are also 5-2. Petrak points out the Browns haven't won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since 2003, and a win would be their first season sweep of the Steelers since 1988. All eight teams in the AFC North and NFC North are above .500, which PFT says has never happened through Week 7.QUICKLY: Fred Greetham has his takeaways, and Fred's post-game check-in is on the OBR YouTube channel. And in the Watercooler, flaneur summed up the whole season: "We are all used to seeing teams who find creative new ways to lose. It's a refreshing novelty, watching the '26 team as they find ways to win."Have a good one! The man on the next stool was drinking hard and clearly down on himself, so David talked with him, telling him "life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain," and left him his business card. That night the man's wife called. Her husband had left a note saying he wasn't coming home and was going to take his own life. He came home anyway, and he told her a stranger at the restaurant had made him feel life was worth living. David told GNN he never imagined a trip to the laundromat could matter that much. Sometimes the most important thing you do all week is talk to the person next to you.WRAPPING UPWhen not trying to remember how to enjoy a Browns season without immediately checking the next three opponents, Barry McBride is the Publisher and Founder of the OBR and bloviates this nonsense every morning.
