Chiefs Suffer 1st Loss Of Season To Seahawks

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Sunday night with an undefeated 5-0 record, but the Seattle Seahawks proved to be too much on Sunday Night Football at Lumen Field in Washington. It was a showdown between one of the NFL's last undefeated teams and the reigning Super Bowl champions, as well as the Kenneth Walker III revenge game. Walker just won Super Bowl MVP with Seattle before signing a three-year, $45 million deal with Kansas City in free agency. However, Sunday night was all Seattle from start to finish, and Walker's MVP start to the season took a massive hit in this game. The Seahawks walked out with a 20-3 win, and the Chiefs only points came via a Harrison Butker field goal in the third quarter. Patrick Mahomes finished 19-of-33 for 165 yards with an interception. Walker had his worst outing of the season, rushing for 36 yards on 14 carries. The Seahawks saw Sam Darnold throw for 257 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and running back Emmanuel Wilson rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a monster game, catching 9 passes for 150 yards and a score while being targeted 14 times by Darnold. Neither team scored in the first quarter, and the Seahawks broke the scoreless tie with a field goal with less than 9 minutes to go in the half, followed by a 28-yard touchdown catch from Smith-Njigba to give them a 10-0 lead at halftime. The Seahawks topped the Chiefs in essentially every offensive category, including first downs (24-to-11) and total yards (410 yards for Seattle). The Seahawks final score came as Wilson rushed for a 21-yard touchdown to seal the deal with less than 4 minutes remaining. For the Chiefs, it was a surprising offensive no-show, especially after winning the first five games. The lowest points total this season entering this game was 22, which came the week before to the Los Angeles Chargers, so nobody expected Kansas City to not score a touchdown in this game. Now, the Minnesota Vikings are the lone undefeated team remaining in the NFL, although Kansas City still has a lead in the AFC West division with November right around the corner. For the Chiefs, they will try and respond, although they face the Denver Broncos on the road in Week 7, followed by a home game against the New York Jets.
