ASK IRA: Does Giannis have to prove himself to Heat, or do Heat have to prove themselves to Giannis?

Q: Serious question: How worried should we be that Giannis Antetokounmpo might not sign an extension in January? It has always been my fear that if we are bad, maybe he doesn’t sign with us. From 1% to 100% how concerned should we be? – Kristopher, Oceanside, Calif.Q: Having seen three Heat games, one shouldn’t jump to conclusions yet. However, a tough question has lingered in my mind. Starting in January 2027, Giannis can sign a four-year $276 million extension. Is there any possibility of that becoming Heat’s Tua contract? – Simo, South Palm Beach.A: Among the issues that certainly are worthy Heat discussion points at the moment, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s extension window hardly is frontburner, if a burning question, at all. Yes, he has a player option for 2027-28 or could become a free agent next summer. But that is a lot of cash to risk by bypassing the extension. As for the value of the extension, the Heat were well aware of the cost in terms of players and salary when they made the trade. Once you go all-in, there is no choice but to remain all-in.Related Articles Submit your “Ask Ira” question here! Q: I’m not doing this after three games, period. How about the coach doing his job and providing the “Inspiration?” – David, Fort Lauderdale.A: Catch phrases don’t matter.
