Yankees need a real job for Jasson Dominguez or a trade

Finding him a useful job on the Yankees is the part that needs an answer this winter.I wouldn’t trade him just to clear a locker. But another season planned around spare at-bats and somebody else’s injury would be a poor use of a player the organization still needs to evaluate. New York should either establish a credible route to regular work or find out what another club would offer.Mark Polishuk’s new offseason outlook for MLB Trade Rumors opens with the need to remake New York’s one-dimensional offense. How Dominguez fits is one decision I’d put inside that review. Exploring a trade is my recommendation, not a report that the Yankees have a deal lined up.July 2026 regular-season archive, not a trade or new roster announcement. He appeared in 57 major-league games and had 222 plate appearances. His defensive record includes 42 starts in right field and two in left, plus work at DH. He received real opportunities during the season. The results were disappointing: a .225 average, .267 on-base percentage and .368 slugging percentage. His .635 OPS fell well below the .719 he produced in 429 plate appearances in 2025. Ten walks against 48 strikeouts didn’t give him much protection when the hits weren’t coming. Those numbers explain the diminished confidence. They don’t make 222 plate appearances a final judgment on his bat. Dominguez had a better on-base season a year earlier, and trading him after the weaker one could mean accepting a return that doesn’t reflect his remaining upside. There is a defensive question, too. His 2026 major-league fielding record has no center-field entry. That doesn’t prove he can’t play there. It does mean the Yankees shouldn’t describe him as their ready-made center-field insurance without a fresh evaluation of that assignment.0What do you think?Post a comment.Competition has to offer something he can winA legitimate spring competition would be a reason to keep him. A bench label with no clear way to gain at-bats would be much harder to defend. The distinction matters when the Yankees decide which outfielders and bats to bring into camp.I’d explore his trade market while leaving room for the possibility that the best offer is no offer at all. There is no verified package to assess yet, and moving him for an insignificant return wouldn’t solve a development failure. If New York keeps Dominguez, the next roster plan should identify where he can play, whose at-bats are available and what performance would earn him more of them.Related HeadlinesNY Yankees should price Alec Bohm as a part-time batReleasing Stanton won’t erase the Yankees’ $15 million billA Yankees reunion with Gary Sanchez needs a smaller roleRead more at Empire Sports Media
