Round of applause for La Salle, Scituate and Cranston East. Those are your top girls soccer teams in the regular season in Division I, Division II and Division III. The Rams, Spartans and Thunderbolts will all carry No. 1 seeds into the playoff drama that will unfold over the next two weeks. La Salle has won five straight matches since suffering a lone 1-0 defeat against Cumberland and enters as the defending champion. Those are the top two teams in the state, but they're not invincible. Lincoln played a 5-5 draw with the Clippers in October and North Kingstown pinned a lone 2-1 defeat on Cumberland midway through September – those two teams are plenty dangerous after claiming top-4 seeds. East Greenwich, Mt. Hope, Chariho, Portsmouth and Barrington all closed at .500 or better at the top level. The Huskies have a tricky preliminary meeting with Moses Brown upcoming while the Patriots and Eagles will battle for East Bay supremacy in their own preliminary matchup. The Chargers and Prout meet in another regional battle that will sharpen the winner for the Clippers. Scituate went all the way to the regular season finale before suffering a 3-2 defeat at St. Raphael, a result that will give the rest of the division fresh hope into November. The Saints are the No. 6 seed behind North Smithfield, Ponaganset, Pilgrim and Toll Gate. The Northmen and Burrillville are lined up to meet in a quarterfinal while the Patriots and Titans could collide for a third time in an all-Warwick affair. Cranston East dropped a City Cup meeting with Cranston West, but no one in Division III has been able to give the Thunderbolts a scare to date. Victoria Acevedo pumped in five goals in a 5-0 shutout of Pawtucket last week, a lopsided result between the top two seeds. Providence Country Day and Bay View have yet to face Cranston East this season – perhaps they could change the equation in the semifinals or finals over the next two weeks. With the playoffs starting Monday, we offer this note – this will be the final Player of the Week poll until the middle of November. The next will decide the premier performer over two weeks of the postseason. That also won't determine All-State, the Player of the Year at our annual June show downtown or your college future. We're just here as always to highlight your accomplishments in a given week and shed a little light on performers throughout all three divisions. Who won last week's poll?Eva Corriveau was our Player of the Week in the last poll, collecting 70% of the ballots and more than 10,000 votes over the course of a few days. She netted both goals as North Smithfield secured a notable result early in the week – a 2-1 triumph over Ponaganset. The Northmen have extended that form while earning a bye into the quarterfinals. We need your helpExpect to see your name here and didn't find it? There could be a couple reasons for that. First among them – we need to hear about how your games went every night, and we're asking for some help with that. Our staff would love to be everywhere all at once, but it's simply not possible. Coaches and athletic administrators – home or away – are asked to contact us with their results every time you play. This is recognition for your players and communities, and we’re happy to offer it. We just need some cooperation, and we hope that’s not too difficult. We can’t take submissions from parents, family or club coaches. We appreciate your passion and interest, but we’d like to keep this as official as possible. Please reach us via phone Monday through Friday from 6-10 p.m. at (401) 277-7340 or via email at pjsports@providencejournal.com. With that, on to the nominees.Meet this week's nominees for Providence Journal Girls Soccer Player of the WeekRose Couto, Moses Brown Could the Quakers be peaking at the right time? Their recent results are worth noting entering the Division I prelimiinary round Monday. Couto scored a goal and assisted on another in a 3-2 win over Portsmouth and set up the lone goal in a 1-0 shutout of Smithfield.Julianna Lemieux, Ponaganset The Chieftains are rolling into the Division II playoffs thanks to three comfortable wins over the final week. Lemieux dished out a pair of assists in a 4-1 victory over Westerly, two more in a cruise past Tiverton and netted a goal in a convincing shutout of Johnston.Leah Lincoln, La Salle The Rams finished the regular season with a 1-0 win over Barrington, and Lincoln made the difference.
