Colorado State has lost six of its last seven games. The latest was a lopsided 64-38 defeat to top-25 Boise State on Nov. 7 at Canvas Stadium as CSU's defense was shredded again, this time for nearly 700 yards. Here's a look at some of the most notable things CSU coach Jim Mora said after the game.Watch the full press conference via the video at the top of the story.Jim Mora on CSU's loss to Boise State"I was proud of the way our offense fought tonight. Proud of the way our team fought, we just couldn’t get them stopped. It’s no secret that we can score points and we did it tonight without John Holthaus, who is one of the top tackles in the conference, should be an all-conference selection. And Juice (Vereen), Mel (Brown) and Durell (Robinson). It gave some young guys a chance to shine."Once again the story of the day is our inability to stop people and keep points off the board. I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve never been involved in something that’s like this. It’s disappointing. I’ll tell you this, our players continue to work hard, they continue to have a great attitude, they come into work every day. It is a job and they come in every day with a great mindset, energy, enthusiasm. They have good practices then we go out on the field and it has not translated well but we’re not going to abandon what we’re doing because I believe in it and because it’s going to get better."Jim Mora on making sense of CSU's defensive performance"That’s a question I can only answer partially. I can answer it fully, but I’ll decline to answer part of it just because it wouldn’t be the right thing to do. But I’ll tell you this, we are doing the right things defensively in terms of scheme. And I know that because I’ve coached defense for decades and been fortunate to be around some of the best defenses in football, quite frankly. You go back and look at the Saints and 49ers and some of those teams and we were great. "We know what it looks like. We got a little bit of a late start on it, which is my fault. We’re playing catch up. It’s hard to teach a new scheme midseason. It seems so simple in practice and seems so simple in a meeting room when you have a clicker in your hand and you can run it back and forth and you can slow it down and you can teach it that way. Then the lights come on and you’re playing an opponent that’s going to go at warp speed and has really good players and is one of the top-ranked teams in the country, things change. We just have to have the resolve to continue to try to really emphasize the right things. I’m not going to make you a promise, but this defense here eventually is going to be something our fans will be proud of. It will be something to make the fans here and our student body and administration proud."Jim Mora on the mental battle for the defense"You have no option (but to keep showing up). You can tap out and you can hang up your cleats and go away, but these guys aren’t built like that. This will not be the hardest thing they face in their lives. Us as adults in here know that. I just expect them to keep coming back hard because that’s what they’ve shown they will do. It’s not easy. It’s not easy at all."Jim Mora on if there are any signs of the defense getting closer to success"There’s just a real inconsistency to the way we’re performing right now defensively. You see some really good plays and then we’re not exacting enough in our gap control in the run, we’re not challenging enough in certain situations in pass. You see that third down dig route they caught and you’ll go ‘well it’s the DBs.’ Well, it wasn’t. Underneath we weren’t in our proper space. We were chasing ghosts, chasing decoy routes. There’s a function of playing with discipline because these are disciplined players."Sports reporter Kevin Lytle can be found on social media on X, Instagram and Threads @Kevin_Lytle and on Bluesky. This article originally appeared on Fort Collins Coloradoan: What Jim Mora said after CSU football loss to Boise State
