- 1 run; 4 teams tied at No.
- DeLand (8-1) has been No.
DeLand (8-1) has been No. 1 in the Sentinel’s Super 16 Coaches poll since the preseason, and for the eighth straight week the Bulldogs are a unanimous choice of the 15 voting coaches. DeLand has been the unanimous No. 1 in 10 of the 11 weeks this season. The only changes among teams in the Top 10 was West Orange flipping spots with Lake Nona as the Warriors moved up to No. 6. And Oviedo and Evans, ranked 9th and 10th respectively last week, are now tied at the No. 9 position. The bottom six spots have an unprecedented four-way tie after several surprises in last week’s final district games. Undefeated Independent Innovation is tied with Hagerty, Winter Park and Lake Mary in the 14th spot.Lake Mary, the only team with a below-500 record in the poll, re-enters the rankings this week after a 45-13 shellacking of Apopka. The Rams had fallen out of the Super 16 after Week 5, but are back after a five-week absence. Lake Mary, the Class 7A state champion a year ago, was decimated by injuries early in the season, with the most detrimental injury being suffered by quarterback Remy Jarman. He is back from a broken collarbone and the Rams are playing well. The Rams face a tough test this week at No. 5 Bishop Moore (7-2), which has won seven straight games. Lake Mary, despite being 2-7, remains a likely qualifier for the Class 6A state playoffs, which will be announced after next week’s slate of make-up games. There is one district championship undetermined with Winter Park (4-4), Hagerty (5-3) and Timber Creek (5-3) tied for first in 6A District 4 with 3-1 records in league play. The tiebreaker will be team’s final regular season MaxPreps rankings. Winter Park holds the advantage as the No. 16 team in 6A. If the ranking holds up through Winter Park’s final two games — at home Friday against No, 12 Ocoee and at home next Tuesday in the resumption of a previously suspended game with 5A District 5 champion Palmetto (7-1) — then Winter Park would gain the automatic FHSAA playoff berth as the District 4 champion. As the current rankings sit, Hagerty would slide into the playoffs at No. 29 while No. 34 Timber Creek would be left out.Hagerty’s remaining games are at Lake Brantley (4-5) on Friday and at New Smyrna Beach (5-3) next Tuesday for a make-up game. Timber Creek is at Oak Ridge (4-5) on Friday and at Apopka (3-5) on Tuesday for the resumption of a postponed game. Those games are not likely to help Timber Creek’s strength of schedule, and thus, their ranking. In interesting non-district games on Friday. No. 1 DeLand (8-1) hosts 6A District 14 champion Spanish RIver (5-3), No. 2 The First Academy (7-1) plays at perennial powerhouse Lakeland (8-1), No. 3 Jones (7-2) hosts No. 6 West Orange (8-1), No. 4 Seminole (9-0) travels to No. 9 Oviedo (7-2), Innovation puts its 9-0 mark on the line at neighboring Lake Nona (8-1), and No. 13 Dr. Phillips will be at No. 9 Evans,Super 16 Coaches PollTeams are listed with (record), number of votes, (first-place votes), results from last week, next game.
