Scheffler is a superstar of the current game. The 30-year-old has won four major championships, while he has already gone past 20 wins on the PGA Tour. He is, unquestionably, the most dominant player the game has seen since Tiger Woods. However, Scheffler would surely reject the idea that he is any sort of superstar. He does not appear to have any sort of ego, while you get the impression that he would quite happily stay out of the limelight altogether if he could. So it is not particularly surprising that he managed to make the day of a number of junior golfers during a round at Royal Oaks. How Scottie Scheffler stunned several junior golfers at Royal OaksSpeaking on PGA Tour Radio, Colt Knost shared what Scheffler did towards the end of their round together that completely amazed him.“I had an opportunity this past Friday to tee it up with world number one Scottie Scheffler. I just want to tell you the kind of man Scottie Scheffler is,” he said.“We were playing on Friday at Royal Oaks Country Club and the 18th hole is a par five and the back tee box is literally 15 yards from the back end of the range.“We were walking back playing our hammer wolf game and this is the number one player in the world. There are probably, I would say, five junior golfers on the range. I believe they play at Highland Park, which is where Scottie did as well.“He’s walking back to the tee and I hear ‘is that the junior club champ over there?’. All the kids turned around and the kid was just shocked, Scottie Scheffler knew the kid won the junior club championship and took time out of his day, walked over there, high fived him, gave him a hug and talked to those juniors for a few minutes while we were playing golf.“I just loved it so much. He was that kid at one point, following all the pros around. The fact he is now number one in the world and does not forget where he has come from and acts the way he does, when people don’t see it. There was not a bunch of cameras around; nobody was filming it. And I bet that kid who gets to school tomorrow will tell all his friends ‘Scottie Scheffler knows I won the junior club championship’.”The award Scottie Scheffler is destined to win in the coming yearsYou would imagine that the vast majority of professional players would make sure to give junior golfers their time, understanding that they were once the ones hoping to get the autographs of their idols. But clearly, Scheffler knowing that detail about one of the juniors just separates him. There may well be a PGA Tour player in a decade who reveals the story of how much it meant to have Scottie Scheffler congratulate him on winning the junior club championship.Scheffler made headlines on Sunday at the Presidents Cup when he conceded a long par putt in his match with Nico Echavarria after a spectator had shouted during the Colombian’s swing. With that, he has to be an early contender for the 2027 Payne Stewart Award. There are not many players who are better ambassadors for the game.
