Ryan Garcia confirms talks underway for WBC title defense against Floyd Mayweather

The annual rumor about a Floyd Mayweather boxing return has arrived. It seems ‘Money’ Mayweather cannot stay away from the ring. Almost a decade after hanging up his gloves with a win over UFC great Conor McGregor, the legendary boxer has been enjoying himself competing against fighters from around the world. A series of exhibition bouts has followed the 49-year-old since retirement, with his most recent coming two years ago. But as we near the end of 2026, the Mayweather rumors are beginning to heat up. However, this time, it’s different. While it remains unlikely Floyd Mayweather dusts off his gloves and enters the ring for a professional bout as he approaches his 50th birthday, a recent conversation may give his fans hope. Mayweather and boxing megastar Ryan Garcia shared some words on FaceTime, which reportedly included fight talks between the two.“Talking about [boxing],” Garcia wrote on social media.Talking about 🥊 pic.twitter.com/x10bCca14Z— RYAN GARCIA (@RyanGarcia) October 21, 2026A rumor that could have easily been swept under the rug has been gaining steam after Ryan Garcia’s latest statement.According to the reigning, defending WBC welterweight champion, he believes his discussion with Mayweather went well, claiming the pair agreed to fight. ‘King Ry’ ranks among the most followed active boxers in the sport, amassing tens of millions of fans over the years. If he is able to add Floyd Mayweather to his resume, while boxing purists will know the win doesn’t hold as much power as it would have a decade or two prior, it will likely see Garcia’s following multiplied by the more casual viewer.Ryan Garcia has a title to defend whether the fight talks with Mayweather materialize or not, which he believes they will.“Trust me at first I thought this was bullsh*t,” Garcia added. “But it’s real. Floyd and I agree to a fight. 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world. 50-0 vs. the current champ.”Trust me at first I thought this was bull***But it’s real Floyd and I agree to a fight 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world 50-0 vs The current champ— RYAN GARCIA (@RyanGarcia) October 21, 2026
