Ole Miss star Kewan Lacy to miss game against Auburn, Pete Golding says

OXFORD – Ole Miss star junior running back Kewan Lacy will miss this weekend’s game against Auburn after dislocating his shoulder in the third quarter against Texas, Rebels head coach Pete Golding said Monday.Lacy, a preseason All-American who was a Doak Walker Award finalist last season after rushing for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns, has battled various injuries this season. He left the season opener against Louisville with a leg injury but returned the next week against Charlotte. He suffered a separate injury to the same shoulder in the third quarter against LSU that caused him to miss the Rebels’ loss against Florida. Lacy returned after the bye week and logged seven carries against Vanderbilt before rushing for a season-high 122 yards against Missouri. He leads the Rebels with 388 rushing yards.“(He) dislocated his shoulder in the game. So it wasn’t exactly what it was before, it was different. So, with the combination of both of those, obviously he’s not going to play this week,” Golding said. “And then we’re going to evaluate that moving forward, kind of what that looks like. I know normally we wouldn’t tell you that, but there’s no chance that we’re going to try that at all this week. And so he still did the rehab process, we’re still getting some MRIs and all that stuff. But it was definitely a different injury than what it was.”Junior Makhi Frazier, sophomore JT Lindsey, sophomore Shekai Mills-Knight and senior Joshua Dye are the top running backs behind Lacy. Frazier, a Michigan State transfer, is second on the Rebels with 301 rushing yards. Lindsey has 86 yards this season but has not received a carry since the Vanderbilt game. Mills-Knight scored on a 35-yard touchdown run against the Commodores, while Dye has four carries this year.“I think Makhi has come in and played well. I think with Kewan being out this week, I think Shekai is going to have a real opportunity this week as well,” Golding said. “Obviously JT’s still in the room that, we have to find some things for him to do. But I think between those three guys – and then Josh got in there and did some good things. … We’re going to need all of those guys moving forward, to be honest with you, and do a good job in that room creating roles for them and allow them to execute throughout the week so we can play better on Saturday.”
