NC State fires head coach Dave Doeren following 3-4 start

NC State University has fired head coach Dave Doeren, the school announced on Saturday evening.Doeren led the Wolfpack to a 3-4 start to the season and most recently lost to Stanford 31-28 on Friday night. Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan released a statement about the decision."I want to thank Coach Doeren for his service and contributions to NC State, and for always representing the university with pride," said Corrigan. "I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role. We wish Dave, Sara and his family the best in the future."Running backs coach/special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the regular season.NC State hired Doeren as head football coach in 2013 after a two-year stint as head coach at Northern Illinois. After a 14-year career with the Wolfpack, his tenure ends with a 121-78 overall record, including a 5-6 bowl record. This post will be updated.
