Mourinho hails 'extraordinary' Real Madrid after Mbappé double sinks Barcelona in El ClásicoJosé Mourinho says his Real Madrid players produced an 'extraordinary' performance after Kylian Mbappé's double secured a 2-1 Clásico win over Barcelona at Camp Nou.Mbappé opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Gerard Martín fired a clearance straight into him, before Raphinha levelled in the 61st minute.Mbappé then struck the winner in the 87th minute, tucking in Eduardo Camavinga's cutback after sublime skill from Jude Bellingham. The result ended Barcelona's perfect start to the season. Hansi Flick's side had won all nine of theirLa Liga fixtures and would have broken Madrid's 1968-69 record for the best ever start in the Spanish top flight with another win.Jose Mourinho's side had started the game six points behind their fierce rivals and knew defeat would have left them with a long road back in the title race.Mbappe's double instead sees Madrid move to 24 points from 10 games, three behindLa Liga leaders Barcelona and one behind second-placed Atlético Madrid. The Frenchman's brace also continued a remarkable record in Spain's biggest fixture. Mbappe has now scored eight goals in seven Clásicos, and 14 goals in 11 career games against Barcelona. He also moved to 100 goals in 116 games for Real Madrid.Mourinho had insisted before the game that the Clásico would not decide whether his side can win things this season."A game that the world which loves football stopped to see"Speaking after the match, Mourinho praised both sides for the spectacle before turning to his own players."I think it was a great game,"Mourinho said. "A game at a high level, a game that the world which loves football stopped to see. And they weren't let down, with two teams that played to win."In our case, the boys played an extraordinary game, well organised, focused, with a lot of courage, playing an opponent that presses you a lot. For me it's a great victory for the boys, against a great opponent.“This match was one where we could leave trailing by three, six, or nine points. Obviously, if you fall behind by nine, psychologically, it’s heavy. If we were behind by six, it would be balanced. Being three points behind is different, and the way we won is also important because you can win with luck and by defending a lot. We won calmly and with full merit.”
