Berlin Brothersvalley second-year head coach Dante Paul embraces a family-first approach to leading the football program his father, Doug, built into a regional power. The Mountaineers actually are family in both the figurative and literal sense, as far as the talented Janidlo triplets are concerned. The trio of seniors has played a significant role for multiple seasons, but the sons of Darren and Jodi Janidlo have really emerged during their final varsity slate with the 6-1 Mountaineers.“They all have a different personality,” said Paul, as Berlin Brothersvalley prepared for Friday’s marquee Inter-County Conference South contest against rival Windber (5-3). “They all do stuff a little bit different.”Those different tendencies have complemented a successful formula implemented by Paul and the Mountaineers. Berlin Brothersvalley rebounded from its first loss of the season to beat winless Tussey Mountain 45-14 Friday.Brady Janidlo completed 5 of 10 passes for 96 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Carson Janidlo hauled in three of his brother’s passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Janidlo snagged a 19-yard touchdown catch.“Brady, being the quarterback, is an outgoing leader and talks a little bit,” Dante Paul said.Brady Janidlo enters Week 8 with 697 passing yards (49 of 91), seven touchdowns and four interceptions. As a safety, he has two interceptions on defense.“Ryan is a tight end/defensive end, and he’s played for us since his sophomore year,” Paul said. “He doesn’t say too much. He shows up and works every day. We know what we can expect from him.”Ryan Janidlo has 11 receptions for 199 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he made 32 tackles, with six for loss of yardage, including four sacks.Carson Janidlo has 12 catches for 186 yards and a pair of scores.“Carson is the same way as Ryan,” Paul said. “He’s quiet, but he seems to always step up when we need big plays.”Berlin Brothersvalley faces another stiff test against the visiting Ramblers, who rolled over winless Everett, 42-14, Friday and improved to 5-3 overall, including a forfeit loss to North Star.“You know Windber is always going to be very well-coached and disciplined,” Paul said. “They play the game the right way.”Windber ranks third in District 5-1A, while Berlin Brothersvalley sits atop the 5-2A points race, only two points ahead of 6-1 North Star. The Ramblers hold a 27-18 advantage in the series against Berlin Brothersvalley dating to 1985. The Ramblers won the past two contests against the Mountaineers, including Windber's 14-10 win at Berlin Brothersvalley in 2025.“Bouncing back after a tough loss is always important and got us going in the right direction going into Friday night,” Paul said, referring to a 21-0 Week 6 setback to rival Meyersdale in the Backyard Brawl.
