STARKVILLE, MS — On the 14th play of Oklahoma’s final drive of the first half, the pocket collapsed on quarterback John Mateer around the Mississippi State 40-yard line.Mateer, known for his ability to make plays with his legs, stepped up and scrambled to his left. With Bulldogs defenders attacking him from all sides, Mateer used his left hand to stiff arm one before taking a few more steps to his left and firing a jump pass to an open Isaiah Sategna III around the 20.With Mateer on the ground after he took a shot, Sategna made a move and turned on the jets. The former track star left several MSU defenders in the dust, scoring a 36-yard touchdown and giving the Sooners a 10-point halftime lead. The play was a massive momentum shifter — capping a 14-play, 96-yard drive that spanned nearly six minutes — and the Bulldogs never recovered. Later in the third quarter, he converted a third down by launching a deep one to Sategna for a 54-yard gain — his longest pass of the season. In the fourth, Mateer threw perhaps his best pass of the season 49 yards to Sategna.Sategna caught eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. Running back Tory Blaylock rushed 12 times for 71 yards in the win.Coach Brent Venables said all week that he thought the Sooners could build on their offensive performance in the Kentucky loss.
