The news was first reported by Ed Reed of the Fort Myers News-Press.Moulton was a staple of sports radio in southwest Florida for decades, pairing with Mark Miller to form Miller and Moulton, a show he’d continue through this past summer before stepping away to focus on his health. But almost every football fan will have come across Moulton’s work at some point, though they likely would never know it. Along with his distinguished career in radio, Moulton served as a spotter during NFL games for Joe Buck and Troy Aikman while at Fox Sports, and worked the same job for Gary Danielson on CBS Sports’ SEC game of the week.Throughout his career, Moulton also worked as a sports anchor for ABC 7 in Sarasota, did radio for SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio and NFL Radio, was the voice of Florida Gulf Coast University athletics, and wrote a column for the Naples Daily News and The News-Press for over a decade.“It is with a completely shattered heart broken into a million pieces I share that my loving husband, David, died last night while in hospice care at the Douglas Center for Caring,” Moulton’s wife wrote. “David battled stage four renal cell cancer for six long years. It metastasized to his bones two years ago. He never stopped fighting or trying new treatments.“He loved life and loved each and every one of you more than words can express. We are so thankful for the love and support you all have given us.”Buck and Aikman took a moment to acknowledge Moulton during ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast last week. The last few years have been one hell of a ride for David Moulton. He’s one of my best friends in the entire world, and I’ve watched him fight like hell through everything life has thrown his way.And even when life knocks him down, he somehow manages to face it with the same sharp sarcasm, quick wit, and sense of humor we’ve all come to know and love. That’s David. Thanks to @Buck & @TroyAikman for being part of David’s journey and the shoutout! He will roll his eyes but his family and friends know he deserves it!Love you, brother!— John Cassio (@THEJohnCassio) October 20, 2026Miller, his longtime partner, also wrote a tribute on social media.Last night, my longtime radio partner, David Moulton died. For 20 years, he and I did Miller and Moulton. The only reason my name was first is because Miller and Moulton sounded better than Moulton and Miller. Make no mistake, he was top billing. The three or four hours 1/3— Mark Miller (@ThatMarkMiller) October 25, 2026“Last night, my longtime radio partner, David Moulton died. Make no mistake, he was top billing.“The three or four hours [w]e spent together Monday – Friday was the most fun you could have ‘working.’ He would always say, ‘It beats working for a living.’ Did it ever! David was a sports encyclopedia. His recall of games, players and events was unlike any person I have ever come across. More importantly though, he was a great friend, husband and father. The way he talked about his wife and daughter, let you in on what a wonderful person he was. If you were in his inner circle, there wasn’t anything he would not do for you.“I miss everything about what we did,” Miller wrote. Many other former colleagues posted tributes to Moulton on social media following news of his passing.Really sad news… David Moulton a great colleague 20 yrs: CBS spotter, hoops, Miller and Moulton. What a great guy, and he will definitely be missed. So smart, so generous, and someone who always built up the people around him. I was blessed to call him both a mentor and a friend. He gave me a shot, and I’ll never forget that.Sending all my love to his wife and daughter, and to everyone whose life was better because they knew him.— Bud Elliott (@BudElliott3) October 25, 2026Dear friend David Moulton has passed. We arrived together in SW Florida at the millennium, sharing Sports Anchor duties at the ABC/NBC stations there for a half decade… & have shared an unbreakable bond ever since. Always my big brother in sportscasting. https://t.co/EbUWlG2dKo— TOM JAMES! (@TomJamesLive) October 25, 2026Whatever happened to David it had to be sudden. We had just talked a few weeks ago. @TroyAikman reached out and told me I’d be hearing from him(David was extra eyes for him in the booth)as he also was for Gary Danielson @CBSSports for many years. A great mind, and radio personality in Florida for a lifetime. May God Bless David, and prayers to his family. Gone too soon.
