Cris Collinsworth Roasted for ‘Cringeworthy’ Patrick Mahomes Commentary During Chiefs-Seahawks Game

JPA/AFF-USA.com / MEGA; ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGACris Collinsworth is the first to admit he’s a big fan of Patrick Mahomes — but his commentary from Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks may have taken things to new heights.Three different moments featuring the NFL color commentator, 67, and the Kansas City quarterback, 31, from last night’s matchup have since gone viral with viewers. The first came early in the game, after Mahomes threw a pass that was intercepted by the Seahawks. What followed, as noted by fans, was 40 seconds of silence — instead of any criticism of the play.“Mahomes threw a pick and Cris Collinsworth went completely silent lmaooooo,” read one post on X with video of the play. In the comments, fans added, “Collinsworth acting like a family member died,” “He’s supposed to comment on plays, especially big plays, and he goes silent. What a clown,” and, “My thoughts are with Cris during this difficult time.”Then, in the third quarter, Mahomes was hit and fumbled the ball — with the QB diving twice into the ensuing pile-up to try and regain possession. He was able to keep the Chiefs’ drive going, with Collinsworth giving the player props for getting the ball — while not criticizing him for dropping it in the first place.“What other quarterback is getting up twice to go get this football?” exclaimed the analyst. That video, too, was shared on social media — with a viewer adding, “Only Cris Collinsworth could turn this boneheaded play by Mahomes into a compliment 🤣🤣🤣”“He can’t help it. Moron will moron…that’s Collinsworth,” commented one fan, while another added, “Cris Collinsworth glazing Mahomes even after Fumbling is Crazy 😭.”“I’m always surprised in how Collinsworth can somehow find a way to praise Mahomes even in negative plays,” said another viewer.ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGAThe third awkward moment came after Collinsworth offered up some commentary on the frustrated look which appeared on Mahomes’ face after a play went south. That video was shared by the Awful Announcing account on X.“That’s the second time I’ve seen that look on Patrick Mahomes’s face,” Collinsworth said. “When he went back and recovered that fumble earlier, I saw that same sort of ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me’ look. There it is again. Have you ever seen that look on Patrick Mahomes?”“It’s hard for him to hide the man-crush he has on Mahomes,” one X user responded to the footage. Another added, “Stop giving Collinsworth Chiefs games, it’s unbearable.”More generally, one viewer also wrote, “Cris Collinsworth is so unbelievably cringe-worthy when it comes to talking about Patrick Mahomes.”The Chiefs went on to lose the game to the Seahawks 20-3.Collinsworth, meanwhile, has been open about his appreciation for Mahomes in the past — especially after comedian Nikki Glaserrecently joked he has a “boy crush” on the quarterback.“Now she’s starting in on my love affair of Patrick Mahomes,” he said in a September 2026 appearance on The Dan Patrick Show. “I almost told Patrick when we had our meeting. I was like, ‘Hey man, you know one of these games, I’m just going to rip you for no apparent reason, just so I can. You know, would you be good with that?’ And I know Patrick, he’d be like, ‘Yeah, it’s fine, don’t worry about it.'”Read More From First for SportsAaron Rodgers Calls Out NFL Owners Over International Games: ‘They’re a Little Tight on Money’Football Club President Backtracks After Female Photographer Calls Out Ban on Revealing OutfitsJoe Burrow Silences Fans Who Called Him ‘Washed’ and ‘Overrated’ as Bengals Shut Down RavensThis story Cris Collinsworth Roasted for ‘Cringeworthy’ Patrick Mahomes Commentary During Chiefs-Seahawks Game first appeared on First for Sports.
