Baldwyn scored 84 points Friday night in Hamilton. Hamilton scored 63 points and lost. The basketball score in football had the entire state talking.Hamilton was up 21-7 before Baldwyn even ran an offensive play.“I was threatening to fire the defensive coordinator,” Baldwyn coach Neal Allen said. “Then I realized that was me.”He can laugh now, but it was far from funny on Friday.Hamilton scored in three plays on the game’s first possession. Baldwyn answered with Kaden Agnew’s 75-yard kick return for a touchdown. Hamilton scored again in a handful of plays, then recovered an onside kick in the first five or so minutes of play.Once Baldwyn got back in the game, it was a track meet.“We’d score. They’d score. It was the wildest thing I’ve ever seen,” Allen said. “I’ve never been a part of one like that, and I’ve been doing this almost 20 years.”Baldwyn scored late in the second quarter to go up a score at halftime, thinking it would have the first offensive possession of the second half. The Bearcats had an impromptu practice on the baseball field at halftime to make sure they understood how they were going to try to stop Hamilton’s offense. They got a chance to try early in the second half, as Hamilton recovered another onside kick to start the third quarter. The final numbers were eye-popping. Baldwyn had 582 yards of offense. Hamilton had 503. Baldwyn running back Calvin Price had 286 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries. The 84 points are a school record.Hamilton quarterback Sebastian Joslin was 21 of 42 for 401 yards and six touchdowns, plus he had 86 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Lions receiver Chris Willis had eight catches for 210 yards and four touchdowns.Tied at 63-63 at the end of three quarters, Baldwyn held Hamilton scoreless and scored the final 21 points – on a 10-yard run from Price, a 65-yard pass from Rush Watkins to Braylan Hasting, and a 6-yard run from Brandon Johnson.“We did better in the third and fourth quarters. We had three interceptions, a caused fumble, and made them punt once,” Allen said. “That’s probably the highlight of the game with everybody scoring.”
