LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 20: Alexander Isak of Liverpool looks on during the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 League Phase MD3 match between Liverpool FC and Villarreal CF at Anfield on October 20, 2026 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Lewis Storey - Danehouse/Getty Images) | Getty Images Liverpool’s current male leading goal scorer, yes you read that correctly, is preparing to meet his match. The Reds host Brighton on Sunday and though Alexander Isak has scored five goals in six matches, the Seagulls have a free scoring record of their own, having scored 15 goals in four matches and conceding zero. We might have our work cut out for us. “It’s definitely one of the tougher opponents that you have in the league but I think in the Premier League in today’s football, there are no easy games,” Isak told the club website before Sunday’s match. “So, I don’t think you need any motivation to do that, I think it’s already there. We know it’s going to be tough, but we play at home and we have to go to win.”After a frustrating first season in a red shirt last year, Isak isn’t the only one ready to return to form and keep scoring goals. The striker has even missed two games to injury this season and is still the leading scorer, hopes are high that the good form can continue after he scored the winner against Brentford last weekend and in the Champions League match up against Villareal. “It was a short time I was out so I don’t feel like I’ve missed too much, so I feel good. It feels like the team is in a good place so yeah, excited,” the striker continued. Any sort of progress is better than missing the majority of the season like last year, and Isak was asked if he had any other specific goals in mind (no pun intended?) for the rest of the current campaign. “No, not really. Just try to be on the scoresheet for every game and try to make them count as important ones as well,” Isak explained. “I think the potential is super-high, which is good because I think we can do much better as well so the ceiling is definitely high.” Liverpool currently sit fifth in the table, one point behind fourth place Chelsea, and nine points off of first place, but it’s October, who is really looking at the table anyway. A win against a tough opponent like Brighton though will surely lift some spirits who may be going into the meeting a little pessimistically.
