LeBron James won't do that for the Philadelphia 76ers' 2026-27 NBA season. He will stay in New York City and use a helicopter to get to games and practices. It was a wonder how he would pull this off, but it was all thanks to a deal with Fanatics. Does the NBA approve of this? Well, Adam Silver made his stance on it very clear.Silver clears air on if 76ers' James breaks NBA rules with Fanatics helicopter dealThe distance between LeBron James' home in New York City and the 76ers' practice facilities in Camden, New Jersey, is about a two-hour drive. That commute would take a lot of time out of The King's day. Not to mention, fatigue will start to catch up with someone making that kind of commute through an 82-game NBA regular season. This is where Michael Rubin and Fanatics come on.They signed James to a multi-year endorsement deal back in 2024. Obviously, there was money involved. More than that, they put in place a clause stating that the 76ers star could use a helicopter to travel. As a result, the King's travel time gets cut to just 30 minutes, or an hour at most.Questions started to arise about the legitimacy of this Fanatics deal. Some even flat-out didn't like James for his transportation choice. In all of those scenarios, the lingering question was: is this allowed in the NBA?Adam Silver finally spoke out and gave the answer that 76ers and NBA fans have been asking for, via The Pat McAfee Show."I would just say. In the case of LeBron and that helicopter, he has a deal with Fanatics. It's perfectly appropriate if part of his deal is they're gonna supply a helicopter to him as long as it's just a deal between the Fanatics and LeBron and no team is involved, there's no rules issue there whatsoever," the NBA commissioner declared. So why are the Fanatics allowed to do this while the 76ers, along with all the other NBA franchises, can't? Silver had the answer for that too."A team can't play any role in one of their players getting a deal with a separate sponsor. But if players have direct relationships with a sponsor, that's absolutely their right that they can't do in a cap system. Because then, whatever the limit is that they can pay the player, the team can then come on and say, 'but on the side, the following companies will arrange to do deals with you.' That would be an easy way to circumvent the cap. On the other hand, companies come to players all the time, particularly players like LeBron to have huge endorsement deals. Again, that's their right," the NBA commissioner added. This directly contrasts with what happened between Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers. The organization found ways for the player to circumvent the cap and earn more, which led to one of the harshest team punishments of all time. This will obviously help James and the 76ers a lot because of less travel time, but it seems like the NBA is perfectly fine with this scenario. Will this scenario between James, the 76ers and Fanatics set a precedent for future stars and the nature of their endorsements? Only time will tell in the NBA.More 76ers News:Why LeBron James is wearing special jersey patch throughout 76ers' seasonWhat to know about LeBron James' deal with PolymarketWhere to watch LeBron James' Sixers debut today
