BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football starting quarterback Josh Hoover was replaced by backup Grant Wilson to start the third quarter with the No. 4 Hoosiers trailing 10-7 to Minnesota.Hoover, who has been battling an injury to his throwing arm, was 8 of 19 for 119 yards with a touchdown and interception in the first half. He wasn't listed on the availability report two hours before kickoff, but right before halftime was shaken up on a blindside hit that was flagged for a penalty. The former Old Dominion starter won the backup job during fall camp over Tyler Cherry.Wilson, a seventh-year vet, has played in five games this season with his most extended reps coming back in Week 2 against Howard. He threw for a pair of touchdowns in the 55-0 win, his first passing attempts since a win over Indiana State during the 2025 season. While Wilson didn't get many snaps during IU's undefeated season, the coaches and players considered him an unsung hero in the quarterback room for the time he spent mentoring Fernando and Alberto Mendoza.“It was just a blessing,” Wilson said after the win over Howard. “It's been a long journey, my whole career led me to this moment right here with coach (Curt) Cignetti and this team. I love it, I love football so much, and it was just a blessing out there today.”This story was updated with new information.Want more Hoosiers coverage? Sign up for IndyStar's Hoosiers newsletter.
