PHILADELPHIA − By now, it should be clear which path the Eagles should take in regard to the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10.It's a line from the movie "Trading Places," and it goes "Sell! Sell! Sell!"That point was driven home after the Eagles' 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 26. It was the Eagles' fifth straight loss as they fell to 2-5 on the season.Buy Philadelphia Eagles ticketsAnd while Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said there are still 10 games left, and the NFC East is wide open, and that the 2021 Eagles rallied from a 2-5 start to make the playoffs, the circumstances in 2026 are very different. The Eagles have a rare opportunity to reset for the future, to trade pending free agents, or soon-to-be free agents whom the Eagles likely won't be able to afford given their salary cap situation for next season. But that's only true to an extent. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman can't hold a full-scale fire sale where everything must go. After all, Roseman can't trade players he just gave massive new contracts to, most notably defensive linemen Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Jonathan Greenard. And it doesn't make sense to trade running back Saquon Barkley because the Eagles won't get full value for someone nearing his 30th birthday who has played only two full games this season because of injuries. But when Barkley has played, he has averaged 5.7 yards per carry. In addition, as much as Roseman might want to trade left guard Landon Dickerson, whose injuries over the years have caught up with the three-time Pro Bowl player, it's hard to see a team giving up more than a late-round pick for him. Roseman won't trade defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean or Andrew Mukuba. And he might not want to trade right guard Tyler Steen even though Steen is in the final year of his rookie contract. Not that Steen is a cornerstone player. But with the Eagles' aging offensive line, re-signing Steen can build some continuity with likely returnees in Jordan Mailata at left tackle and Markel Bell at right tackle.Yet there are players whom Roseman can flip for early- to mid-round draft picks. Roseman already gave the blueprint when he traded wide receiver A.J. Brown in June for a 2028 first-round pick in addition to a fifth in 2027, and more recently when he traded center Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2028 second-round pick and fifth in 2027.Here, then, are seven players Roseman can, and should, try to trade before the deadline. They're ranked in reverse order of expected return:7. Hollywood Brown, wide receiverBrown had 587 yards receiving last season for the Chiefs, but he can barely get on the field this season after signing a one-year deal worth $5 million. He has just two catches for 30 yards. Roseman should jump at any team offering a late-round pick for a guy who can spread the field as a speed receiver. The Chiefs and Rams, for example, are both banged up at receiver.6. Fred Johnson, offensive lineJohnson was a reliable backup in 2024 when he started five games in place of the injured Mailata, and again last season when he started eight games in place of the injured Lane Johnson. Fred Johnson, who's on a one-year contract, can provide depth for a playoff team. Again, a late-round pick might be enough to entice Roseman.5. Moro Ojomo, defensive tackleSo far, Ojomo hasn't had the season many expected after having 6 sacks last season. Some of that is because of nagging injuries. But Ojomo is on the final year of his rookie contract. And for a seventh-round pick in 2023, Ojomo can start on most teams. A fourth- or fifth-round pick would be great value for the Eagles.4. Jihaad Campbell, linebackerThe Eagles might be selling low on Campbell. But the fact that the Eagles' first-round pick in 2025 (No. 31 overall) is losing playing time to Jeremiah Trotter, the Eagles' fifth-round pick in 2024, indicates that it might be time for the Eagles to move on. If there's a team that believes it can maximize Campbell's talent, then maybe a third- or fourth-round pick could convince Roseman to deal him.3. Riq Woolen, cornerbackThe Eagles signed Woolen to a one-year deal worth as much as $15 million, and it was likely that Woolen wouldn't be back in 2027. If he played well, another team would give him a multiyear deal worth at least $10 million per season. If he didn't play well, then the Eagles probably wouldn't want him back anyway. So far this season, Woolen has been up and down, including very down against the Cowboys. If Woolen is not coming back next season, why not get a mid-round pick for him?2. Dallas Goedert, tight endThis is the second straight season Goedert returned on a one-year deal for less money than the year before. It won't happen again after the Eagles drafted Eli Stowers in the second round. As much as Stowers might not be ready, it's time for the Eagles to start giving him a chance. Goedert has shown that he's still one of the top receiving tight ends who might be able to bring back a third-round pick. Zach Ertz, who's languishing on the practice squad, can serve as Stowers' mentor as he takes Goedert's roster spot.1. Nolan Smith, edge rusherSmith, who's currently in the concussion protocol, would have the most value of any player the Eagles might trade. For one, he's just 25 years old. Secondly, he's tied for the team lead in sacks with 3. And third, Smith is under team control for $14 million in 2027, a bargain for an edge rusher after the Eagles picked up his fifth-year option last May. The Eagles can't re-sign everybody, and it's clear they would prioritize keeping Mitchell and DeJean over Smith. So if Roseman can get a second-round pick or better, he should jump at the offer.Contact Martin Frank at mfrank@delawareonline.com. Follow on X @Mfranknfl.
