The Vikings’ perfect season has come to an end. Their offense continued to struggle and the defense eventually wore down in a 19-15 loss to Jahmyr Gibbs and the Lions on Sunday afternoon at Ford Field.Detroit iced the game with Gibbs and a rushing attack that was quiet early before exploding in the second half. After taking the lead on a Jameson Williams receiving touchdown with 4:35 left, the Lions (5-2) forced a Vikings three-and-out and then ran out the clock against a tired defense to secure a huge win.The Vikings (6-1) remain atop the NFC North, but they leave this game with big questions as they prepare for another very difficult matchup next week against Josh Allen and the Bills. Kyler Murray was 17 of 29 for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, and that stat line doesn’t exactly communicate how ineffective he was at times in this game. The Lions racked up 384 yards of offense against the Vikings despite a slow start. Gibbs ran 23 times for 153 yards and a touchdown. Sione Vaki chipped in 65 rushing yards of his own. Jared Goff threw for 176 yards and the game-winning touchdown. After being sacked four times in the first half, he wasn’t sacked once in the second half.Justin Jefferson was held to 33 receiving yards on nine targets. He had an impressive one-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter, but frustration remains evident for the Vikings’ superstar receiver, who hasn’t been able to get going like he usually does for over a calendar year now.Next up for the Vikings is the final full week before the NFL trade deadline, during which time general manager Nolan Teasley will have some interesting decisions to make. Then they’ll host Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football on Nov. 9, the night before the deadline.Game rewindIt felt like this week might be different. Against the Lions’ elite offense, surely the Vikings’ defense wouldn’t be able to continue its dominant ways. Conversely, this seemed like a great time for the Vikings’ struggling offense to get going against a Detroit defense that has surrendered all kinds of yards this season. And yet, at least early on, this was more of the same. The Vikings’ offense couldn’t get much going. Their defense, blitzing on almost every snap as usual, sacked Goff four times in the first half and picked him off once. At halftime, the Vikings led 7-6 behind a one-yard Jefferson touchdown catch. They had also missed a field goal, punted three times, and turned it over on a Murray interception. But things changed in the second half. A Gibbs 30-yard touchdown run capped a long Lions drive and put them in front. The Vikings, after a turnover on downs in Lions territory, responded with a long catch by Jordan Addison and a touchdown grab by T.J. Hockenson to take a 15-12 lead. But Detroit punched back with an easy TD drive, got a key stop, and then ran out the clock.Related ArticlesScary injury to Jack Campbell delays Lions-Vikings in fourth quarterJustin Jefferson gets Vikings on the board with crazy juggling touchdown catchJauan Jennings, Jonathan Taylor and the latest Vikings Sunday trade rumorsVikings may catch a break with Micah Parsons’ injury timelineThis story was originally published by Bring Me The Sports on Nov 1, 2026, where it first appeared in the MN Vikings section.
