👀 Star treatment for Messi? La Pulga can play despite fifth yellowInter Miami face New England Revolution in their penultimate regular-season game late on Sunday night. Superstar Lionel Messi will also be in action, even though he picked up his fifth yellow card in Thursday’s 2-2 draw against Cincinnati. Is La Pulga getting special treatment? Not actually. The Argentine benefits from a very particular MLS rule. Players who go five consecutive matches without a yellow card have one booking deducted from their tally, if they have any.Messi had completed those five matches just before the game, so he could afford to pick up another booking without worrying. Looking back over the past few months, though, an exception for the star would hardly have been surprising.Cristiano Ronaldo, for instance, had part of his suspension following a red card suspended so he would not miss this year’s World Cup. At that same World Cup, FIFA then rescinded a red card shown to Florian Balogun for no apparent reason. In Messi’s case, however, everything is above board. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence.
