On Tuesday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide were officially ranked by the College Football Playoff (CFP) committee as the nation's No. 5 team in their first rankings of the 2026 season. At 6-2 overall (4-2 SEC), Alabama's current resume features two ranked wins in the eyes of the CFP committee over No. 6 Kentucky and No. 21 South Carolina. Both of the Crimson Tide's losses were against top 15 teams in the eyes of the committee as well in No. 2 Georgia and No. 13 Tennessee. The Crimson Tide were also the highest ranked two-loss team in college football Tuesday night, and will face No. 14 LSU this upcoming Saturday afternoon looking to add a third ranked win to their resume. This ranking though was among the most talked about of any team following Tuesday night's release, sending social media into a frenzy as a result with mixed reactions across the sport. Here is a look at some of those reactions from Tuesday night.November 3️⃣ College Football Playoff Selection Committee Rankings5️⃣. Forget about SEC bias. There’s like three SEC teams alone that should be ahead of them.In no way should they be above Ole Miss or Texas. pic.twitter.com/ji2EOldDN4— Brandon Walker (@BFW) November 4, 2026People are going to be mad at Alabama at No. 5. It's probably a little much. But they do have two 28-point wins against teams in the initial top 25. And they beat Mississippi State with Kamario Taylor by 33.— David Ubben (@davidubben) November 4, 2026Yurachek on Bama being 8 spots above Tennessee basically says Bama has a better resume."To compare teams head to head, they have to be in the same pod." Bama and KY were in the same pod, Bama and Tenn. were not.Note: The exact same thing he said about Miami-ND last year.— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) November 4, 2026One clear takeaway from the CFB Playoff rankings: The committee LOVES the SEC's SOS. Alabama, Ole Miss & Texas with 2 losses all ranked ahead of 1-loss teams like Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Wake Forest. This is a year where a 3-loss SEC playoff team is very much in play.— Chris Hummer (@chris_hummer) November 4, 2026Two-loss Alabama and two-loss Texas come in ranked #5 and #7 in the initial CFP Rankings. Strength of schedule is certainly being factored in this season.— CJ Vogel (@CJVogel_OTF) November 4, 2026Alabama at #5 huh. Some great wins but it feels like we're excusing losses.— J.D.
