Brown and TreVeyon Henderson against the Dolphins, putting extra pressure on a depleted offense. There is, however, a significant positive in New England’s inactive list: cornerback Carlton Davis III is active after missing the team’s previous three games.Davis’ return gives the Patriots another experienced option in a secondary that has had to adjust without him. It arrives on a day when the offense will rely on a limited group of receivers and a newly elevated player, making a strong defensive performance especially valuable.A Return That Could Help Stabilize The SecondaryDavis has played only three games this season and last appeared in New England’s Week 4 win over Buffalo. His availability gives the defense another chance to use the cornerback depth it planned around, alongside Christian Gonzalez and the rest of the secondary.🚨 #Patriots Week 8 inactives vs. Miami: OUT: • A.J. Brown • TreVeyon Henderson • Karon Prunty • Elliott Davison • Channing Canada ✅ Carlton Davis III returns after missing three straight games. DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams lead a depleted WR group.— Foxborough Fellas Podcast (@FoxFellasPod) November 1, 2026The Patriots need that group to be ready for a Dolphins offense that is capable of making the game uncomfortable if it finds room in the passing game. Davis’ return does not guarantee a specific workload, but it gives New England another option in coverage and more flexibility with its defensive personnel. That matters in a game where the Patriots may need the defense to help offset the offense’s absences. Brown and Henderson are both inactive, and receiver Ryan Miller was elevated from the practice squad for the matchup. New England has reinforcements available, but it will be asking several players to take on larger roles.MORE: Patriots vs. Dolphins Score, Live Updates, Highlights From Week 8 GameThe Defense Has A Chance To Set The ToneThe Patriots are 4-3 and need a steady performance in Miami after a loss to Chicago. Davis’ return cannot solve every issue on its own, but it strengthens one of the team’s most important units at a useful moment. If the Patriots’ secondary can limit Miami’s passing opportunities, New England can keep the game manageable while its offense works through a difficult personnel situation. On a day with major absences, getting a starting cornerback back is a timely development.More PatriotsLatest Patriots newsTom Brady's Patriots legacy: How legendary QB set new standardComplete history of Patriots championships
