Panthers fans react to Friday's firing of DC Ejiro Evero

The bumpy ride between the Carolina Panthers and defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is now over.On Friday morning, fresh off their 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers here in Week 8, the team announced that they have parted ways with Evero as well as defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley. The firing ends a four-year run in Carolina for Evero, who was brought in alongside previous head coach Frank Reich. That hiring started off well, as the Panthers fielded the NFL's fourth overall defense in his first season at the post. But since then, the unit has experienced more lows than highs—headlined by a historically bad 2024 campaign and constant issues stopping opposing offenses on the ground and on third-and-long situations. Many Panthers fans, even prior to this year's letdowns, weren't exactly fond of keeping Evero around. So, how are they taking today's news? Here are some reactions from the Carolina faithful . . .Oh….Crazy part is — he ain’t the only problem So don’t stop there https://t.co/lyfhK6N9xI— Panthers Culture 🥷🏽 (@PanthersCulture) October 30, 2026Evero is outta here. They REALLY wanted those comp picks. Held on as long as humanly possible.Truth https://t.co/Q60J6bf6L2— PNP (@PantherNationPC) October 30, 2026I always assumed that when Ejiro Evero leaves or gets fired, Jonathan Cooley would be the successorNow both were fired, as just announced by the team— Edgar Salmingo, Jr. ✌🏽 (@PanthersAnalyst) October 30, 2026EJIRO EVERO HAS BEEN FIRED🚨🚨🚨🚨— iBLsmooth (@iBLsmooth) October 30, 2026Dave Canales to Ejiro Evero this morning. pic.twitter.com/upJ8QAMfpO— Michael Bell (@avl_mike) October 30, 2026Lost the game but it got Evero fired pic.twitter.com/eC8xLyQGSn— Primetime Carolina (@primetimecar) October 30, 2026They probably made the decision to fire Evero after the Bucs game but didn’t want to let him go over the short week. The defense likely needed a dominating performance to have kept him on & even still his seat would be on fire. Makes sense to do it during the mini Bye week.— Panthers Sufferer (@ssamohht) October 30, 2026https://t.co/d0rsydi1ANpic.twitter.com/FoE9ErerGO— EVERO IS A NIGERIAN SCAMMER (@jb_inNC) October 30, 2026I’m not sure firing Ejiro Evero now was necessarily about the Packers loss as much as timing. The Panthers had their BYE in Week 5 so this is the longest break in between games for the rest of the season. If you’re going to replace a coordinator, now is the time to do it.— Panthers Stats (@Panthers_Stats) October 30, 2026the one player who is benefiting the most from the #Panthers decision today pic.twitter.com/SXCI5o3cUo— Taco (@TacosTweets) October 30, 2026Ejiro Evero hadJaycee HornDerrick BrownDevin LloydJaelen PhillipsMike JacksonTre’von Moehrigand still was leading the 32nd ranked defense, for the 3rd year in a row.
