One final play, and winner takes all.Can you imagine the excitement and pressure prior to a single snap that will decide everything? Beckett Mizener didn't have much time to ponder before he collected a fourth-down sack to cap a 17-14 victory over Margaretta in Division V in the first round of the postseason.Eleven-seed Port Clinton next visits No. 3-seed Eastwood (9-1)."I read the pass and dropped back," Mizener said. "I saw the quarterback come to the line, and I made the tackle; that's pretty much it. It was a crazy ending to a game."High school football Fremont Ross gets fourth postseason victory at home over Sylvania SouthviewThe snap was fourth-and-goal from the 5. The Polar Bears didn't have a timeout."Being in the flow, you don't think about it as much," Mizener said. "That made it easier; not as worrisome. We all knew it was a must-make play, and if we didn't make the play, it was over. We relied on each other."Lucas Bodie caught a touchdown pass from Landon Leis. Bodie added an interception on defense, and Leis rushed for a score as well. Bodie is a captain, and his timely plays provided a little juice for Port Clinton."He's a leader and role model on both sides," Mizener said. "It got the whole team going."Mizener was a starter at linebacker and rotated at running back as a junior last year. Graduate Gavin Cornell took Mizener under his wing on both sides of the ball. Mizener looked forward to having more of an impact. He has 13 touchdowns on the ground this season.Port Clinton has a versatile offense, utilizing two quarterbacks with the ability to throw and run. Mizener has been the most steady and reliable component."Our offense is diverse; teams have no idea what to expect, run or pass," Mizener said. "Even if we run, we have three backs, same outcome. Follow my blocks. The line has been great this year, especially heavy set."Port Clinton beat Margaretta by three points. That makes a 35-yard field goal from Adam Fitt rather decisive."He definitely deserves a big moment like that," Mizener said. "He's four stars (as a recruit). He's crazy. He puts in the work and goes to camps. He worked all summer. That was a game-winning kick; if we didn't have that, it's overtime."Port Clinton finished 3-7 each of Mizener's first two years before a 7-5 mark last season, including a postseason victory over Edison. Kevin Huntley shifted from defensive coordinator to head coach this season. Port Clinton wants to establish a standard of consistency."The seniors last season turned it around and bought in and showed us what to do," Mizener said. "The seniors this year showed up in the summer.
