Minnesota and Indiana both won ugly last week with wins over Iowa and Michigan, respectively. The Gophers have now built some momentum, and we’ll see if they can hang with the big boys. The Hoosiers are currently 20.5-point betting favorites, but can Minnesota pull off another upset? Here are our staff writers’ predictions.Tony Liebert: Indiana 20, Minnesota 3A 20.5-point spread on this game is far too much, especially with Indiana’s offensive struggles. The Gophers have elite cornerbacks; therefore, I don’t see Josh Hoover having too much success on Saturday afternoon. But I trust Curt Cignetti and Mike Shannahan to figure out their offensive issues far more than I do P.J. Fleck and Greg Harbaugh Jr. Minnesota has the dudes to stay in this game, but Indiana’s massive coaching staff advantage will be too much to overcome.Joe Nelson: Indiana 20, Minnesota 0Indiana is a beast, but only on defense. A team that scores a total of 48 points in three games should never be favored by nearly three touchdowns, as the Hoosiers are against Minnesota. I’m terrified of Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, but if there’s one thing Minnesota does well, it’s limiting one-dimensional quarterbacks, and that’s Josh Hoover, who’s completed 40 of his last 80 passes. I think he struggles, but not quite as much as Drake Lindsey, whose draft stock is dropping like a rock. It’ll be another game in which the Gophers set back offensive football 100 years. Will Ragatz: Indiana 23, Minnesota 10The Gophers surprised me last week with a win over Iowa, edging out the Hawkeyes in a low-scoring affair. This week’s task is even tougher. Indiana is theoretically beatable, especially with QB Josh Hoover struggling. But the Hoosiers have one of the best defenses in the country, a strong running game, and a couple really good wide receivers. I haven’t seen enough from the Gophers’ offense to think that they can put up the points they’ll need to pull off an upset in Bloomington.Jonathan Harrison: Indiana 24, Minnesota 17Outside of laying an egg against Mississippi State, the Gophers have seemingly found a weird ability to play up to their opponents this season, or at least make the games ugly enough they can steal a win. Can that continue on Saturday? It’s going to be up to another unreal game by the defense locking things down and keeping the game close again. Meanwhile hoping the offense can do just enough. That may be a really big ask, though, against Indiana’s elite defense that’s allowing the second-fewest points in the nation this year. On the road, I just have a hard time seeing Minnesota coming away with a victory here, but it’ll be close enough to give the Hoosiers a bit of a scare. Here are our picks from last week.
