Aranda was in Baton Rouge for several days and watched practice, but no move has been finalized.Aranda previously served as LSU's defensive coordinator under Ed Orgeron from 2016-19 before taking over in Waco. He played a significant role in the Tigers' historic 15-0 season in 2019, which happened to be the last time LSU won a national championship.His success in Baton Rouge helped him earn his first head coaching gig. Aranda's potential return would reunite him with former LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who is currently part of Kiffin's staff. This would give LSU another defensive-minded coach.Baylor fired Aranda following a 25-24 loss to Kansas on Oct. 24. He finished his tenure with a 40-40 record, which started in 2020. His tenure with the Bears included a 12-2 campaign in 2021. They were crowned Big 12 championship and a No. 5 finish in the final AP Top 25. However, Baylor had struggled to maintain that level of success.The final month of the season will determine whether LSU is a contender or pretender in the postseason race. The next three games are against ranked teams, starting with No. 5 Alabama on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
