Kentucky basketball recruiting target Lewis Uvwo announced on Wednesday that he was committing to Providence. He chose them over the Wildcats, California, and Baylor, who many predicted him to. Uvwo is a 6'11", 225 lb center out of Florida who Mark Pope has heavily recruited. Uvwo is rated five stars by 247Sports and he ranks as their No. 7 overall player in the class, and the top center of the 2027 group. His primary strength is on defense, where he uses a 7'6" wingspan to protect the rim at an elite level. Though Uvwo is still a work-in-progress offensively, he has the potential to be a good all-around player, and is a huge win for Providence, who haven't had a lot of five-star prospects. He has NBA potential, and immediately makes them a better team.As for Kentucky, they had Uvwo in Lexington for a visit, but will go down as another miss for Mark Pope. All eyes move to Cherif Millogo, a top 50 player, and another of the top centers in the class. He is set to make a decision soon, but is set to visit a couple of other schools first. We will continue to monitor Kentucky's efforts to add to their 2027 class. This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Kentucky target Lewis Uvwo announces his commitment
