Key Takeaways

  • Colts: Why 11 straight home wins don't matter to Coen.
  • The Colts haven't won in Jacksonville since 2014.
  • Liam Coen isn't relying on history as the Jaguars prepare for Jonathan Taylor.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) haven't lost at home to the Indianapolis Colts (2-5) since 2014.For perspective, here are a few things that have happened since the Colts last beat the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sept. 21, 2014: Tom Brady won four more Super Bowls, retired twice and became a broadcaster. The Browns went 0-16, rebuilt, and won a playoff game.Patrick Mahomes went from being a freshman at Texas Tech to a three-time Super Bowl championTravis Hunter was just 11 years old. He's since won the Heisman Trophy and been selected No. 2 overall by the Jaguars in the 2025 NFL Draft.STADIUM OF THE FUTURE UPDATE: Jacksonville Jaguars President Mark Lamping said breaks served a purposeThe streak is stunning, and the Jaguars hope it continues on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m.Jaguars don't care about their win streak against ColtsWhile the 11-game home winning streak (10 at EverBank Stadium and one in London) is one of the prevailing storylines surrounding this weekend's matchup, the Jaguars aren't listening to the outside noise. To them, it's just the next game on the schedule and nothing from the past matters.“I think it's one of those ones in the NFL. It's always nice to have a home field advantage. I believe we have that. It's not an easy place to come in and play, I don't think. We play well at home for sure," said Jaguars head coach Liam Coen this week when asked about the streak."That's something that you can lean into, but we haven't necessarily talked about any streak or anything like that knowing that it's say it's the NFL, any given Sunday, and it can happen anywhere.”Want tickets to Jaguars-Colts for Sunday? The Jaguars have won their last six games at EverBank Stadium under Coen, all by at least 17 points. Jacksonville has a +161-point differential and averages a 26.8-point win. Since Coen became head coach, the Jaguars have gone 9-1 at home. These figures exclude London games and the postseason.Between the streak and Indianapolis sending two of its top players out the door in trades, no one is giving the Colts much of a shot. The Jaguars, though, aren't taking Indianapolis lightly. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was a high school freshman when the Colts last beat the Jaguars in Jacksonville, remembers defeating Indy as a rookie in 2021. The Jaguars were 2-14 at the time with nothing to play for but pride, while the Colts had playoffs on the line."It's the NFL. It's hard to beat any team, honestly. You have to play well every week. So, I think that's the mindset for us is it doesn't really matter what's going on with the team that we're playing, they're still going to have a team full of guys ready to go that are going to want to beat us here in our home stadium," said Lawrence. "So, we have to be ready.”Jaguars run defense faces toughest matchup vs. Jonathan TaylorWhile all eyes have been on the Jaguars' sack total this season, the team has more than made up for it in the run game, ranking as the top defense against the run. The Jaguars have given up an average of 72.2 rushing yards per game this season. Before facing the Houston Texans, the Jaguars hadn't allowed more than 39 yards to an individual running back (Jonah Coleman, Week 2). Players averaged just 2.9 yards per carry against Jacksonville through the first five games. Against Houston, the Jaguars allowed 114 yards on the ground. Running back Woody Marks totaled 56 yards, while rookie back Jawhar Jordan finished with 43 yards on six carries. Before that, the Jaguars had gone 23 games without giving up 75-or-more yards to an individual rusher. What explains the success? "I think really our players just being bought into what we do, the process of doing that every day. I think our coaches do a great job of just coaching the fundamental things every day," Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said this week. "That's really, to me, a culture thing and that's what I would lay it at the feet of: the coaches and the players buying into that, trying to do that and work the technique every day. It's hard work doing it and being consistent that way, but they've done a great job with that." While the focus has been on nose tackle DaVon Hamilton for the team's success, edge rusher Josh Hines-Allen has been the focus. Hines-Allen ranks ninth in the league with a Pro Football Focus run defense grade of 77.4. He's posted 16 solo run tackles and ranks in the 84th percentile in run disruption (1.7 points) and run-stuff rate (3.2%). NFL's Best Run-Defenders at EDGE pic.twitter.com/y9z7tZxZ5W— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) October 28, 2026Hines-Allen ranks behind only Houston's Will Anderson Jr. in negative-graded runs allowed, along with a high run-stop percentage."He's physical at the point of attack. It's hard to block him on the tight end. He's powerful enough to power back a tackle and set an edge," Campanile explained about Hines-Allen's game."And what that does really, at the end of the day, if you're setting edges and you're grinding blocks inside out from that point on within the interior of the defense, it gives you an opportunity to play with leverage on the ball."Hamilton's push lets Hines-Allen play with backside fill, eliminating big runs. It's worked more often than not. That'll be especially important against Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, one of the best at his position. This season, Taylor has 587 yards on 140 carries and a league-leading eight rushing touchdowns. That follows a season in which Taylor led the league in rushing touchdowns with 18. Want tickets to Jaguars-Colts for Sunday? Can Jaguars' run game exploit Colts' loss of DeForest Buckner? On the other side, Jacksonville could try to establish the run this week, especially without defensive tackle DeForest Buckner taking up space on the interior of the line of scrimmage.Even with Buckner, Indianapolis was susceptible against the run, allowing 124.4 yards per game (22nd), 4.76 yards per rush allowed (28th) in addition to allowing six rushing touchdowns and 49 rushing first downs this season. Against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1, the Colts allowed 202 rushing yards. The Jaguars have steadily improved their rushing attack with consistency, but are still looking for explosive gains. The team leans on running backs Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr., with the former typically used as the bell cow. Against Indy, both players could get plenty of run. This season, Tuten has rushed for 388 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Rodriguez has totaled 168 yards and two touchdowns this season. He posted his best game of the year for Jacksonville against the Texans in Week 6, rushing for 55 yards on 11 carries.
