Halloween Magic as Arsenal Finally Break Their 14-Year Anfield Curse

Halloween Magic as Arsenal Finally Break Their 14-Year Anfield CurseToday Arsenal broke their Anfield curse, ironically during the weekend of Halloween. The Gunners narrowly defeated Liverpool 1-0 in their title pursuit, allowing them to overtake Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.Arsenal now lead the Citizens by three points, amazingly, a far cry from being three points behind them since mid-September following the 3-0 defeat to Brighton.Fourteen Years Since Arsenal Last Won at AnfieldThe last time we won at Anfield was back in 2012, when our current manager Mikel Arteta was playing for us in the middle of the park, which feels like a lifetime ago, showing how far he and the club have come.On that remarkable day, Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal toppled the Reds 2-0, delightfully. Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla scored on either side of the break. However, I’m sure many of us didn’t think we would have to wait 14 years to win again away at Liverpool.I myself, currently aged 24, was only ten at the time and didn’t get into Arsenal properly until a year later. It feels surreal to say Arsenal won at Anfield in the Premier League, where we have slipped up multiple times in the past decade, frustratingly. There was a lot of pressure on us today to win following being defeated on penalties in the League Cup by League Two Fleetwood Town, woefully.Today was do or die for Arsenal, and many questioned whether Arteta could overcome the odds, but they certainly did.I can’t believe the Anfield spell is broken!(Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)Arsenal Must Build on Their Anfield VictoryArsenal now need to use their momentum to steer themselves forward in the title race rather than worrying about what Manchester City might do. However, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that they helped us a lot by losing 1-0 to Brighton on Saturday, which they struggled to eclipse. We’re not far away from the halfway point of the season, and if Arsenal can be top of the Christmas tree by the end of December, our current fanbase will feel more hopeful of winning a second successive title. For the time being, Kai Havertz was the saviour versus Liverpool, and at first I worried if we would see a repeat of what happened in the Champions League final when he scored and PSG came back to haunt us, but not anymore!COYG!Liam HardingCan Arsenal finally put their Anfield struggles behind them and use this victory to push towards another Premier League title?
