Plenty of the blame has fallen on Herbert’s shoulders, but Everett thinks the problem is much bigger than who’s under center.“Ok Chargers fans… So Herbert is the issue? Frankly, I have been in his shoes,” Everett wrote via X. “Show me a productive TE! Show me a WR who owns the middle. Show me a healthy line. WR room is 3 dudes sharing 1 job. 21 sacks in 6 games (60 sack pace)…52% over the league average. 4 rookies on the O-line in front of him at one point. All while they are installing a new offense?“[That] sinks about any quarterback.”Everett spent 12 years in the NFL, and had his fair share of difficult seasons. In his final four years with the Rams, he won just 17 of his 57 games, mostly declining due to the overall roster depth and veteran departures. How Has Justin Herbert Performed This Year?Herbert is going through something similar at the moment, with several young and inexperienced players making up his offensive core. That being said, Herbert’s numbers are far from what the league has come to expect from him. He’s completed just 107 passes through six games for 1141 yards, and leads the NFL with eight interceptions on the year compared to just five touchdowns.A big cause of his slump could be the integration of a new offense, as Everett said, as offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel just joined the team from the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. The Chargers’ offense currently ranks last in the league in points scored, as well as turnovers and fumbles lost. If nothing else, the team’s run game looks decent so far this season, with 714 yards and 4.2 yards per carry, which both rank 13th in the NFL.Herbert is still a supremely talented quarterback with a talented offense, and the Chargers are sure to figure things out sooner rather than later as the offense jells over the course of the season. Their next opportunity to get into the win column comes against the Rams on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PT.The post Former Rams, Chargers QB Defends Justin Herbert Amid Slow Start appeared first on LA Sports Report.
