Sivan and Patrick Dumont are now the controlling owners of the Dallas Mavericks. The Dumonts purchased Miriam Adelson’s shares of the Mavericks last month, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, which made them the controlling owner of the team with a 69% ownership share. Though she has sold her shares to the Dumonts, Adelson is still very much connected to the Mavericks. Patrick Dumont, who has served as the Mavericks’ governor since the families purchased the team from Mark Cuban in 2023, is Adelson’s son-in-law. Sivan is Adelson’s daughter."It's really about long-term investment in the city of Dallas," Dumont told ESPN on Tuesday. "The Dumont family is really committed to building what we hope is the best arena in the NBA, a really significant investment in the city that will help create the new 40-year home for the Dallas Mavericks, a great experience for our fans and inspire our team to win championships. That's really what we're focused on. We had the opportunity, and we're really excited about it."Cuban sold the Mavericks to Adelson at a $3.5 billion valuation in 2023, though he still maintains a 27% share of the team. He’s since admitted that he regretted selling the Mavericks to Adelson and Dumont in the first place, especially after the Dumonts and Adelson pushed him out of the team’s basketball and business operations side. Cuban’s comments came in the wake of the Luka Doncic trade, which drew intense backlash from Mavericks fans and resulted in an overhaul of the team.Dumont, who is the Las Vegas Sands CEO, can purchase another 20% share of the team from Cuban in the future at the same valuation, too, something he said he plans to do in the future."I just have to tell you, I love Mark. He's been a great family friend for a really long time,” Dumont said. “He's just a super passionate Mavs fan and he's frustrated. I respect it. We're going to hopefully do him proud. That's my goal — to make all of our Mavs fans super proud about the success of the team and win a championship."The Mavericks are expected to open a new arena at the Valley View Mall site in north Dallas in the coming years, and hope to have a new business office and practice facility to go with it. Dumont has overseen construction of the Venetian Arena in China, which is home to the NBA’s preseason games in the country each season. The Mavericks have played at the American Airlines Center since 2001, and hope to move into the new arena in time for the 2031-32 campaign."I think what we bring to Dallas is going to be world class,” Dumont said. “My goal is to make the best arena in the NBA. It starts with the court and expands outwards, and I want to make sure the fans have the best experience possible, because we owe it to them."The Mavericks currently hold a 4-3 record entering a matchup with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. They’ve not been to the playoffs since their trip to the NBA Finals with Doncic in 2024, and went just 26-56 last season.

Valkyries parade historic WNBA title through ‘global capital of women’s sports’

On a sun-soaked, picture-perfect Bay Area day, the Golden State Valkyries did more than just parade a historic WNBA championship through the streets of San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon. In the words of Mayor Daniel Lurie, they established the city as the “global capital of women’s sports.” And as Vakyries center Kiah Stokes said to NBC Bay Area’s camera after stepping off the ferry Wednesday afternoon, they’re just getting started. “It’s unreal,” Oakland-born singer Kehlani told NBC Bay Area
