Clark receiver Elisha Johnson voted Express-News Athlete of the Week

(Robin Jerstad/For the Express-News) With Clark facing a must-win situation to stay alive in the District 28-6A playoff race, the Cougars called Elisha Johnson's number repeatedly.The senior receiver answered the call as he hauled in 13 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns in Clark's 49-14 win over Roosevelt last week. Now, he's been voted the Express-News Athlete of the Week.In addition to Johnson's massive performance as a receiver, he also rushed for 36 yards and threw a 38-yard touchdown pass.With his stellar all-around showing, Johnson beat out four fellow finalists in the Athlete of the Week poll.Davenport junior Zayden Garza had single-game career highs with 310 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a 77-10 win over Taylor. He set those new marks on 24 carries, giving him an average of 12.9 yards per tote, earning him Offensive Player of the Week.Smithson Valley junior Kipton Grabhorn, the Defensive Player of the Week, recorded three sacks in a pivotal 35-24 win over Boerne Champion to keep the Rangers undefeated on the season. The junior made eight total tackles, including four TFLs, and forced a fumble.The Volleyball Player of the Week, Smithson Valley senior Brielle Boothe, led the team in kills in sweeps against Boerne (20) and Alamo Heights (16) to help Champion lock up the District 26-5A championship, its first since 2019.
