Thursday night was gut-check time for the Carolina Panthers, who were fresh off an embarrassing 30-point loss to the one-win Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7. But that gut would just keep taking shot after shot, until the Green Bay Packers came out of Lambeau Field with a 27-19 win.So, is this latest letdown the beginning of the end for the 2026 Panthers? Well, maybe it's not as deflating as some may think. Here are our top takeaways from the Week 8 defeat:The offensive line needs a solution . . . or two . . . or moreFor a second straight outing, the Panthers' offensive line greatly hampered quarterback Bryce Young. Young took six sacks and, according to ESPN, was pressured on a career-high 22 of his dropbacks—many of which came ridiculously quickly. Heck, the Packers even got home on three-man rush at one point. To be fair, the unit is missing its usual starting tackles in Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton and didn't have their best, left guard Damien Lewis, at their disposal in this one. But, uh, that performance was rough.Carolina's depleted (and expensive) trench continues to be a major issue. Left tackle Rasheed Walker is having an abysmal year in pass protection, right guard Robert Hunt appears to be a shell of his former self and rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling is taking his lumps. The Panthers have to find some answers to keep Young upright and give him a chance to operate. Otherwise, the offense—which was one of the league's most productive groups early on this year—will keep on regressing.Where's the pressure?Conversely, the Carolina defense couldn't create much, if any, of their own pressure.Packers quarterback Jordan Love, without the benefit of a functional run game, was able to keep his offense moving throughout the night—completing 30 of his 41 throws for 288 yards and three touchdowns. And a big reason why was the lack of heat from the Panthers, who tallied zero sacks and zero quarterback hits despite a 44-percent blitz rate.Similarly to the offensive line, this position group is missing some key contributors—as Jaelan Phillips was sidelined for the second week in a row. But if you can't disrupt opposing passers, you're not going to do meaningful enough damage on defense.Had the Panthers—who kept the Packers to 2.5 yards per rushing attempt—bothered Love, then the outcome may have been different.Too much to takeUnlike their previous showing, the Panthers showed some fight here in Week 8. So the resolve, or at least their drive towards it, didn't feel like the issue. This just seems like Carolina is crumbling under the weight of their injuries. Between their makeshift offensive lines, their missing pass rush and their battered cornerback room—which may have to start two practice squad members come Week 9—it gets to a point where they can only do so much.To the team's credit, and as head coach Dave Canales alluded to afterwards, his guys did bring some urgency with them to Lambeau Field. The want-to was there—but, right now, they simply cannot.
