Arteta counts it a privilege to face Iraola as Liverpool managerMikel Arteta will come up against one of his childhood friends when he takes Arsenal to face Liverpool this weekend. The Arsenal manager is focused on retaining the Premier League title he won at the Emirates last season, but he knows the scale of the challenge awaiting him and his players at Anfield. Liverpool have made an impressive start under Andoni Iraola, who took charge at the beginning of the campaign following an excellent spell as Bournemouth manager.Arteta and Iraola have known each other since childhood. They grew up in the same neighbourhood, became friends and played alongside each other before beginning their respective journeys in football. Their paths have since led them into management, where both have established themselves in the Premier League. For Arteta, the opportunity to face someone with whom he shares so much history adds another dimension to an important fixture. The Arsenal manager spoke warmly about their relationship and the significance of meeting at two major clubs.Arteta reflects on friendship with IraolaThe Gunners boss described the occasion as a privilege, recalling the time they spent together when they were younger. He also highlighted the importance of the match, with both clubs competing at the highest level in English and European football.Speaking to Arsenal Media, Arteta said:“It’s a privilege.“Someone who has been your teammate, that you spent so many beautiful moments together when we were younger. To be facing each other, to be close, massive clubs in this country, in Europe, in a big match like this, it’s a blessing.(Photo by Steve Bardens/Getty Images)Arsenal target long-awaited Anfield victoryArteta also acknowledged Liverpool’s status as potential title challengers, pointing to the quality of their squad, their manager and the club’s history. However, he is particularly keen for Arsenal to end their long wait for a victory at Anfield.“I think all the top clubs are certainly title challengers, and it’s so early in the season, when you look at the squad, the manager that they have and the history for sure, that is. We expect a big game on Sunday; we’re looking forward to it for sure. It’s been 14 years since we last won there, so it’s time to do it.”_____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
