Former Paris Saint-Germain player Aminata Diallo is to stand trial at the Versailles Criminal Court five years after an attack on her then team-mate Kheira Hamraoui.Diallo, 31, has been charged with complicity in aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. In a court order, seen by The Athletic, an investigating judge has now concluded there is sufficient evidence that Diallo instigated the attack on Hamraoui and should appear in court to decide if she is innocent or guilty. A date for the hearing has not yet been set.As previously reported by The Athletic in 2024, on November 4, 2021, Diallo and Hamraoui drove home from a team dinner. In Chatou, west of Paris, men in balaclavas had stopped Diallo’s club-issued Toyota Corolla. One hit Hamraoui with an iron bar, targeting her legs, while the other held Diallo to the steering wheel.Although initially released without charge, 10 months later in September 2022, Diallo and five men were arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. According to a police report from September 2022, which has been seen by The Athletic, Diallo instigated the attack on Hamraoui, her motive being “violent sporting jealousy”. The report was written in French and translated to English by The Athletic.Diallo’s lawyer Romain Ruiz told The Athletic, via text message and in English, that the decision is “disgraceful”.“First, because it turns a blind eye to the investigators’ utter lack of integrity, most recently highlighted by a criminal complaint filed just three days ago for witness tampering,” he said.“Second, because it unhesitatingly repeats several falsehoods that we will expose before the Court. Ms. Diallo remains determined to prove her innocence, since demonstrating that the prosecution is unable to prove her guilt is apparently not enough.”In a 2024 interview with The Athletic, Diallo, who is currently without a club and last played for Saudi side Al-Nassr in 2024, said: “I’m not a devil, I’m not an angel either. After experiencing this injustice, there’s a lot of hatred, violence towards those who accused me. I had to rediscover my peace.”Said Harir representing 36-year-old Hamraoui, who now plays for Saudi club Al Hilal, said the decision marks a “decisive step” in the case.“For Kheira Hamraoui, these years have been grueling,” he said. “On top of the violence of the attack came the lengthy preliminary investigation, and the personal, professional and media consequences of a case that has left her permanently exposed and vulnerable.“It has taken unwavering determination to maintain, year after year, a consistent demand: that the facts be established and that those responsible be brought to justice.“It is essential that Kheira Hamraoui is finally given a voice in a trial that reflects the gravity of the offences she has suffered.”Julia Minkowski, who is also representing Hamraoui, added: “After five long years of the investigation, it is a huge relief to see the inquiries come to a conclusion and a trial due to take place soon.”The five men involved in the attack, as well as Cesar Mavacala – a former sports adviser to Diallo and France internationals Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani – will also appear in court on charges of illegally acting as a sports agent.Mavacala’s lawyer has been contacted for comment. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Paris Saint-Germain, Soccer, Women's Soccer2026 The Athletic Media Company
